Propstore, the entertainment memorabilia auction house, announces the upcoming sale of two screen- and photo-matched props from Jaws (1975), marking one of the most significant rediscoveries connected to the film’s 50th anniversary. The items, unseen by the public for around 50 years, headline Propstore’s Spring Entertainment Memorabilia Live Auction, scheduled for March 2026 in Los Angeles.

The two artefacts are Quint’s original W.W. Greener Harpoon Rifle Mark II, used by Robert Shaw and Richard Dreyfuss, and Quint’s Fenwick 130 lb. fishing rod with a production-used Penn Senator 16/0 reel. Both props survive from a production known for its harsh filming conditions, where saltwater exposure, demanding stunts, and mechanical failures destroyed much of the original equipment.

    Quint’s Harpoon Launcher

The W.W. Greener Harpoon Rifle Mark II is estimated to sell for $250,000–$500,000. It appears on screen during pivotal moments when Quint and Matt Hooper escalate their efforts to confront the shark. The launcher is screen-matched through its distinctive woodgrain and unique physical characteristics. Its original matching case, also screen-matched, appears aboard the Orca as Quint removes and assembles the weapon. The case accompanies the launcher in the auction.

The prop includes a custom effects-made shark dart created for the production. Provenance traces directly back to a 1990 auction of the Universal Studios armory, the original studio behind Jaws, strengthening the authentication record and documenting its uninterrupted history.

The Fenwick Fishing Rod Used Aboard the Orca

Also offered is Quint’s Fenwick 130 lb. class fishing rod, paired with a production-used Penn Senator 16/0 reel, with an estimate of $75,000–$150,000. The rod features during the early shark-encounter sequence aboard the Orca, where Quint, Hooper, and Brody respond as the fishing line tightens against a powerful unseen presence beneath the water.

After production, the rod passes through a Los Angeles prop house and later comes to the attention of a veteran industry prop master. Propstore subsequently confirms the piece through detailed screen-matching, establishing its authenticity beyond doubt.

    Rarity of Screen-Matched “Jaws” Memorabilia

Jaws remains one of the most influential films in cinema history. It launches Steven Spielberg’s career, becomes the first film to exceed $100 million at the box office, and reshapes the modern summer blockbuster model. Despite its cultural importance, very few fully verified props from the production have ever entered the public market.

The resurfacing of these two hero-level items offers collectors a rare opportunity to acquire artefacts directly connected to the film’s most recognisable moments and characters.

“Jaws is a challenging title for memorabilia collectors – it is one of the most successful and beloved blockbusters of all time, but very few fully-verified props or costumes have ever surfaced from the film. These two pieces are certainly some of the most significant ever offered at public auction, with the harpoon launcher bearing extra significance due to how extensively it is featured in the film and how much of a role it plays in the plot of the film,” said Brandon Alinger, Propstore’s Chief Operating Officer. “In our 30 years in the prop and costume industry, this is the single finest Jaws piece Propstore has ever seen. Its appearance now, at the film’s 50th anniversary, makes this rediscovery all the more remarkable.”
