Electronic Arts Completes $55 Billion Sale to Saudi-Led Investor Consortium

Electronic Arts has completed its $55 billion sale to an investor consortium led by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, marking one of the largest transactions in the history of the global gaming industry.

The deal, completed on 4 August 2026, brings Electronic Arts under the ownership of a consortium including the Public Investment Fund, Silver Lake and Affinity Partners.

The transaction was first announced in September 2025 and values Electronic Arts at approximately $55 billion.

Following completion, Electronic Arts becomes a privately held company.

Electronic Arts Enters New Ownership

Electronic Arts CEO Andrew Wilson described the completion of the deal as the start of a new chapter for the company.

We’re entering this new chapter from a position of strength with partners who share our vision and ambition,” Wilson said.

The acquisition gives the investor group control of one of the world’s most established video game publishers, with a portfolio that includes EA Sports FC, Madden NFL, Battlefield, The Sims and Apex Legends.

Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund is the leading investor in the consortium.

Leadership Changes Announced

Alongside completion of the transaction, Electronic Arts announced changes to its senior leadership structure.

Cam Weber has been appointed Chief Studios Officer, while David Tinson has been named Chief Operating Officer.

In a message to staff, Wilson said:

The opportunities ahead are extraordinary, and they’ll be brought to life by our creativity, our ambition, and our belief in what’s possible.

The changes come as EA begins operating under private ownership following decades as a publicly listed company.

A Major Deal for the Gaming Industry

The $55 billion transaction is one of the largest acquisitions in the gaming sector and reflects continued investor interest in interactive entertainment.

Electronic Arts is one of the industry’s largest publishers, with major franchises spanning sports, action, simulation and live-service gaming.

The deal also strengthens Saudi Arabia’s position in the global gaming and entertainment market, where the Public Investment Fund has already made a number of strategic investments.

Saudi Arabia has identified gaming, esports and digital entertainment as key areas of economic diversification.

About Electronic Arts

Electronic Arts is a global interactive entertainment company founded in 1982.

The company develops and publishes games across console, PC and mobile platforms, with major franchises including EA Sports FC, Madden NFL, Battlefield, The Sims and Apex Legends.

Following completion of the $55 billion transaction, Electronic Arts is now privately held by the investor consortium led by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund.

About the Investor Consortium

The acquiring consortium includes Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, Silver Lake and Affinity Partners.

The group completed the acquisition of Electronic Arts on 4 August 2026, approximately ten months after the transaction was first announced.

The deal represents a major investment in the global gaming sector and places one of the industry’s most recognised publishers under private ownership.
